On September 4, 2025, Shanghai Yunhong Chemical Preparations and Excipients Technology Co., Ltd. hosted a seminar titled "Functional Excipients: Enabling Differentiated Application Development" at the Kempinski Chengdu Hotel. The event brought together pharmaceutical enterprises, R&D teams, and production specialists from South China, collaborating with industry experts to explore how innovative applications of functional excipients can overcome formulation development bottlenecks, create differentiated advantages, and enhance product competitiveness. This initiative aligns with the dual-track approach of innovative drug development and generic drug consistency evaluation, as well as the normalization of national centralized procurement.

The organizers have also thoughtfully provided a live streaming channel for those who may be interested in the conference but cannot attend in person.
Mr.Zhuang Kai, Asia-Pacific Technical Manager at BASF, kicked off the day with his keynote speech, delivering an insightful presentation titled "Efficient Solubilization Technology: Accelerating Improved Drug Development and Case Studies". Through a wealth of practical examples, he demonstrated how advanced solubilization techniques can tackle the core challenges in developing poorly soluble drugs, thereby speeding up the market launch of improved new drugs.
Mr.Tai, Sales Manager of Beneo, delivered an insightful presentation titled "From Taste Optimization to Stability Enhancement: How Isomaltol Empowers Pharmaceutical Formulation Innovation." Focusing on patient compliance, he elaborated on the unique advantages and application strategies of isomaltol in masking flavors, improving taste, and enhancing formulation stability. Prior to Mr.Tai's keynote, the organizers conducted an engaging "blind box tasting" session. Three samples—different numbered powders containing isomaltol, lactose, and mannitol—were randomly distributed to ten guests for sequential tasting. Participants meticulously evaluated subtle taste differences, including sweetness, smoothness, dissolution rate, and aftertaste. After the tasting, over 80% of the guests unanimously agreed that isomaltol offered the most comprehensive and superior taste profile.
Ms.Pang Jiafeng, Sales Manager at Imerys, delivered a comprehensive presentation titled 'Imerys Pharmaceutical Mineral Excipient Solutions,' highlighting how high-performance mineral excipients serve as diluents, lubricants, and disintegrants in solid dosage forms. This multifunctional role expands the options for optimizing formulation design.
During the afternoon session, the speakers further expanded on their presentations. Mr.Wang Mao, General Manager of Pulimo, delivered a speech titled "Optimizing Coating Formulations to Reduce Costs and Enhance Efficiency." From a practical production perspective, he explored how to achieve cost control while ensuring product quality through scientific formulation design and process optimization, meeting the stringent cost-control requirements of centralized procurement.
Manager Zhuang Kai from BASF took the stage again, presenting "BASF High-Quality Pharmaceutical Polymers Promoting the Development of Sustained-Release Formulations". He provided an in-depth analysis of the key roles played by different types of pharmaceutical polymers in achieving sustained-release behavior, offering technical pathways for developing high-end formulations with market competitiveness.
In conclusion, Ms.Yang Yixiang, Technical Manager at Shanghai Yunhong, delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled "The Art of Excipients in the Era of Centralized Procurement." She provided a profound analysis of how centralized procurement policies profoundly influence excipient selection, while proposing forward-thinking strategies such as "cost-performance balance" and "Quality by Design (QbD)." Her insights offered attendees invaluable guidance for decision-making.
During the conference, multiple interactive Q&A sessions and prize draws were organized. Attendees actively raised questions and engaged in lively discussions with the lecturers about technical challenges encountered in their work, which brought the venue atmosphere to a climax.
The Chengdu session of the 'Functional Excipients Empowering Differentiated Application Development' seminar has concluded successfully. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all distinguished guests, our partners BASF, Beneo, Yirui Stone, and Pulimo, as well as the expert speakers for their invaluable support.
Though the meeting has concluded, the exploration continues. Shanghai Shipping Hong will continue to uphold the philosophy of "creating value for customers," persistently building a high-quality technical exchange platform, collaborating with industry chain partners, and empowering China pharmaceutical enterprises to develop more differentiated and high-quality drugs with innovative functional auxiliary material solutions, jointly driving industry progress!
